Blepharoplasty A surgical procedure used to restore a youthful appearance to the eye area. During the procedure the upper and lower eyelids are lifted and any loose or excess skin or fat tissue is removed from the area. The procedure is limited to the eye area but may be combined with other methods and procedures to improve other areas of the face. Recovery time is minimal with stitches usually removed after five days. Minor swelling, bruising and discomfort should disappear within two weeks.
Botox Botox is a purified toxin that works by blocking signals from nerves to muscles, leading to the relaxation and weakness of facial muscles that are related to expression lines. The lines, or wrinkles, eventually fade from disuse and new creases are prevented from forming. Botox is best used for the treatment of "crow's feet," forehead lines and "frown lines" between the eyebrows. Botox can also be used to reduce excessive sweating. The length of efficacy varies depending on treatment location. Early studies indicate that after receiving injections over time, there appears to be a longer lasting effect. Collagen
Collagen is a natural substance derived from purified animal protein used to replace the collagen skin loses over time. It is injected just below the surface of the skin, filling unwanted lines and wrinkles as well as adding definition. Collagen is most frequently used to treat the lip border, deep smile lines, dimples, lines around the mouth, acne scars, cheek depressions and facial scars. When used with hyaluronic acid-based fillers, collagen replaces skin structure while the hyaluronic acid restores skin volume. Commonly used collagen brands include CosmoDerm, CosmoPlast, Zyderm, Zyplast, and Cymetra. The biggest advantage of Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast is that there is no risk of an allergic reaction. For Zyderm and Zyplast, skin testing is needed prior to treatment. The duration of correction lasts on average 6 weeks - 3 months, but results may vary among individuals.
Hyaluronic Acid Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. It is injected into the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Common areas treated include folds in the cheek such as the nasolabial or melolabial folds and "marionette" lines at the corners of the mouth. It can also be used to enhance the lips, resulting in a natural and sensuous look. Commonly used brands include Restylane, Captique, Hylaform, Hylaform Plus, and the soon to be approved Perlane. The duration of correction lasts on average 3-9 months depending on the type of hyaluronic acid used, but results may vary among individuals.
Sculptra Sculptra is an injectable product that is intended to restore and correct the signs of facial fat loss. Sculptra is effective when used to fill wrinkles and furrows. It makes the skin appear smoother and firmer enabling it to resemble its previous elasticity. Sculptra is long lasting and well-tolerated; results can last 2-5 years. It’s made up of microspheres of poly-L-lactic acid. Because poly-L-lactic acid is the main ingredient in Sculptra, patients do not require allergy testing. Most patients require 1-3 treatment sessions every 6 weeks. The results from Sculptra are not immediate. A gradual increase in soft tissue and skin thickness can be expected.
Tumescent Liposculpting and Fat Transfer Liposuction is the removal of fatty tissue in the skin through tiny incisions using cannulas (small tubes for insertion into the body). By using cannulas of different sizes and designs, surgeons enter the body through the incision sites and employ a crisscross technique to create a smooth and even result. By using microcannuals during tumescent liposuction the risk of causing noticeable post surgical irregularities or scarring of the skin is low. Other skin imperfections such as rippling, dimpling, and “cellulite” may in fact be improved during liposuction. With fat transfer it is possible to have fat liposuctioned from other areas and then transferred to any area of your body, typically fat is transferred to the face. Reinjected fat lasts longer in areas on non-movement. The Dermatology & Vein Institute uses the FAMI technique. The FAMI bloodless technique respects the facial vascular network and places fat into the facial muscles providing long-lasting, symmetric results.
